In this short post I will show how the inspired Scriptures ascribe the same qualities and titles of YHWH to the Lord Jesus Christ. I will focus specifically on the witness of the prophet Habakkuk:

Are you not from of old (miqqedem), O Yahweh my Godmy Holy One? You shall not die. O Yahweh, you have marked them for judgment; O Rock, you have established them for reproof.” Habakkuk 1:12

“God came from Teman; the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His splendor covers the heavens, and his praise fills the earth. And his brightness was like the light; flashing rays came from his hand for him; And there is the covering of his strength.” Habakkuk 3:3-4

“Yet I will rejoice in Yahweh; I will exult in the God of my salvation (yishi).” Habakkuk 3:18

Now contrast this with what is said of our Lord Jesus Christ:

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old (miqqedem), From everlasting (olam).” Micah 5:2 New King James Version (NKJV)

“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star at its rising and have come to worship him.’ And when King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him, and after calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired from them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, ‘In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet, “And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for from you will go out a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”’” Matthew 2:1-6

“And after six days Jesus took along Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothing became bright as the light.” Matthew 17:1-2

“Then he said to Thomas, ‘Place your finger here and see my hands, and place your hand and put it into my side. And do not be unbelieving, but believing!’ Thomas answered and said to him, ‘My Lord and my God (ho kyrios mou kai ho theos mou)!’” John 20:27-28

“But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you. And you killed the originator of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses!” Acts 3:14-15

“But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked for letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, both men and women, he could bring them tied up to Jerusalem. Now as he proceeded, it happened that when he approached Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ So he said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And he said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting! But get up and enter into the city, and it will be told to you what you must do.’ (Now the men who were traveling together with him stood speechless, because they heard the voice but saw no one.) So Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open he could see nothing. And leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. And he was unable to see for three days, and he did not eat or drink.” Acts 9:1-9

“For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all went through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

“looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ (tou megalou theou kai soteros hemon ‘Iesou Christou), who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds.” Titus 2:13-14

“Simeon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith equal in value to ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ (tou theou hemon kai soteros ‘Iesou Christou)… For in this way entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (tou kyriou hemon kai soteros ‘Iesou Christou) will be richly supplied for you.” 2 Peter 1:1, 11

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (tou kyriou hemon kai soteros ‘Iesou Christou). To him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18

“And I turned to see the voice which was speaking with me, and when I turned, I saw seven gold lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching to the feet and girded around his chest with a golden belt, and his head and hair were white like wool, white as snow, and his eyes were like a fiery flame, and his feet were like fine bronze when it has been fired in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters, and he had in his right hand seven stars, and a sharp double-edged sword coming out of his mouth, and his face was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, ‘Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last, and the one who lives, and I was dead, and behold, I am living forever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and of Hades.’” Revelation 1:12-18
